Implement for Impact

Making education research easier to find, compare, and apply so school leaders can make better-informed intervention decisions.

The research exists. Finding the right intervention is the hard part.

Schools have access to decades of research on educational interventions, but turning that evidence into action is difficult. Administrators must navigate government databases and dense academic papers to find programs that fit their students, budgets, and staffing. PowerSchool, supported by a Gates Foundation grant, set out to make that process easier.

Turning dense research into practical decisions.

Fuego partnered with PowerSchool on a multi-phase research, design, and development effort. We interviewed school administrators and intervention specialists to understand how they evaluate programs and make purchasing decisions.

While PowerSchool's teams aggregated research from What Works Clearinghouse and ERIC and developed AI-powered matching capabilities, Fuego designed and built the user-facing prototype.

The experience translates research into digestible summaries, side-by-side comparisons, and customizable cost estimates. Through iterative interviews and testing, we refined how users explore interventions, adjust resource assumptions, and export findings to support decisions.

Results

Making research easier to evaluate and apply in real-world school settings.

01

A validated product concept

Delivered a research-informed, iteratively tested prototype that PowerSchool presented to the Gates Foundation as a response to its original hypothesis.

02

Research made easier to use

Turned complex academic findings into accessible summaries and comparisons, helping school leaders evaluate interventions without digging through individual studies.

03

Planning grounded in real constraints

Designed flexible cost and resource tools that let administrators model staffing, student counts, and program requirements before bringing recommendations to decision-makers.
